Masculinity, Sexism and Feminism

On October 28, we hosted our first Men’s Focus Group for the semester. Because the intersections of masculinity and gender and feminism are so seldomly discussed yet so important to address, the focus groups aim to facilitate open dialogue and active listening.

There’s a lot of interest to keep these focus groups running, and to organize additional events to address issues of masculinity and gender. We want to  do a film showing with a follow-up discussion. Below are some works that we may using; please check them out and give some feedback.

TOUGH GUISE by Jackson Katz

HIP HOP: BEYOND BEATS AND RHYMES by Byron Hurt

SEXISM, STRENGTH AND DOMINANCE: MASCULINITY IN DISNEY FILMS

I’d really like to see the Beyond Beats and Rhymes video. I think it would be awesome if we could get the director to come out, too.
