Jack & Jill: The Other Side of the Hill

Thursday, March 31st @ The Michigan Union – Pendleton Room [7pm]

This event is our annual fundraiser. It’s an art, music, and spoken word show. This year’s theme is “Gender in a Global Context.” Addie is in the process of finalizing our flyer for calls for submissions, and you’re welcome to start talking to people around Ann Arbor and beyond who might want to do something for the show (including yourselves!). If you’re interested in getting involved with this event or if you have ideas, e-mail me (mpweis@umich.edu).

Zine making party!!

Thursday, March 24th @ Carolyn’s house [8pm]

With all of the recent hype of RiotGrrrl and zines, we’ve decided that we should make some zines of our own. We’ll meet at Carolyn’s house and mess around with paper, pens, pencils, markers, glue, scissors, etc. It’s basically the works. We encourage you to bring a fun material to share. We’ll probably have some snacks, too.

Tentative: Ann Arbor Walk for Choice

Saturday, March 26th – time/location TBA

Lots of people around UofM have been e-mailing and preparing for a Walk for Choice in our very own town. We’re working on details, but the 26th is a tentative date. We’re also thinking about having a letter writing and sending campaign there at the rally to encourage people to contact their senators. If you have ideas, send Madi an e-mail at mpweis@umich.edu and she’ll get you hooked up with the right people. There’s a facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Walk-for-Choice-Ann-Arbor/147453578651314?ref=ts.

FEBRUARY EVENTS

RiotGrrrl Extravaganza!

Monday, February 14th @ 2239 Lane Hall [3:30-5pm]

We’re co-sponsoring a presentation featuring writer and musician Sara Marcus. In a presentation that will include music, archival videos, and slides of Riot Grrrl’s material culture, Sara Marcus will speak on the history, context, culture, and afterlives of one of the most important–and vexing–feminist subcultures in history. More details below.

Tuesday, February 15th @ 3222 Angell Hall [4-5:30pm]

Join us as Sara Marcus reads from her new book, Girls to the Front: The True Story of the Riot Grrrl Revolution.

Wednesday, February 23rd @ Digital Ops//525 Liberty [8-11pm]

The Ann Arbor Free Skool, as part of their documentary and discussion series, is showing             “Don’t Need You – A Herstory of Riot Grrrl.” The film documents how Riot Grrrl evolved into a revolutionary underground network of education and self-awareness through music, zines, DIY ethic, and activism oriented towards empowering womne and addressing women’s issues

The F-Word @ Students for Choice’s “The Unseen Epidemic: AIDS in Black America”

Thursday, February 17th @ The Michigan League – Vandenberg Room [6pm]

We’ll have a table from 6-6:30 at this event, which hopes to educate and expose different cultural and legislative factors that have led to the rapid spread of HIV/AIDS in American communities, predominantly black and minority communities. Tabling will be followed by the screening of a short film and a discussion.
