En El Fuego Film Screening
5p-7p, School of Social Work Educational Conference Center
Sponsored by: Rainbow Network, TBLG Matters Initiative, Spectrum Center
Transphobia is an everyday problem around the world and in a religious and conservative city like Lima,
Peru where transgender citizens are not protected by any law, it can be downright dangerous.
Transgender people from Lima, Peru open their lives and hearts and tell their stories about fear, hate,
discrimination, abuse, hopes and dreams in a society that has openly turned its back to them. Despite
the danger of living openly, these Peruvians prosper and persevere. They earn degrees, work with
children and stand for themselves, effectively changing the status quo for their LGBT community.

Transgender Day of Remembrance
7p-9p, Rackham East and West Conference Rooms
Sponsored by: Rainbow Law Center, Washtenaw Rainbow Action Project, Spectrum Center, LGBT
Commission, Rainbow Network
Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to antitransgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder in
1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999.
Since then, the event has grown to encompass memorials in dozens of cities across the world. We will
take time to both remember our past and celebrate our future. For more information, visit the
following website http://www.gender.org/remember/day/
